Active Covid cases rise again, to 3,781

THE number of active Covid-19 cases shot up yesterday after the health ministry reported 3,781 new infections against 2,979 recoveries.  

The active cases now stand at 35,457, while new cases take overall infections since the onset of the pandemic to 4,933,753.  

Nine coronavirus-linked deaths were recorded yesterday, taking the death toll in the country to 36,504.  

Perak registered four deaths, Selangor accounted for two, and there was one each in Kedah, Perlis, and Negri Sembilan.  

Of the new infections, Selangor reported the greatest number of cases with 1,515, followed by Kuala Lumpur (561) and Negri Sembilan (228).  

Other states and territories registering new cases are Putrajaya (226), Malacca (212), Sabah (176), Perak (163), Kelantan (156), Kedah (145), Penang (102), Pahang (82), Sarawak (80), Johor (67), Terengganu (63), Labuan (3) and Perlis (2).  

Among the active cases, 33,706 people are in home quarantine (95.1%) and 1,676 in hospitals (4.9%).     

There were 75 patients in intensive care, 47 of whom required respiratory assistance. – November 9, 2022.
