NO family will earn less than RM2,208 a month if Barisan Nasional (BN) wins in the next general election (GE), said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tonight as he presented one of the most ambitious election manifestos in the coalition’s history.

In a telecast, the BN chairman said the scheme – assistive basic income – will see the government top up the monthly income of all households to at least RM2,208 a month.

He explained that the difference in amount will automatically be credited to families with wages less than the stipulated figure.

“This scheme is most fair, reasonable, and strategic. It will address the issue of cost of living, and, at the same time, it will ensure that no household will live below the poverty level,” said a firm Zahid.

Zahid declared that the scheme will end the country’s poverty.

“It will mark the end of hardcore poverty in Malaysia,” he added.

Zahid also pledged to reduce the income tax for individuals in the M40 group by 2%.

The M40 group refers to those earning between RM50,000 and RM100,000 per year.

Zahid said to encourage women to return to the workplace, BN promised to introduce tax exemption for women for five years after their breaks from work.

This is in line with the government’s earlier announcement as part of Budget 2023.

Dubbed as Perancangan Amal dan Usaha (Planning of Charity and Efforts) – Padu – BN’s manifesto contains 99 initiatives.

“Our manifesto is not mere promises, this is a new and fresh deal for all. It is also not about giving everything for free.

“Padu has a clear goal, the plan is rational,” said the Bagan Datuk incumbent.
