UMNO deputy president Mohamad Hasan is not going to have the easy win in Rembau his party predicts, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said.

According to Rafizi, voter sentiments put Pakatan Harapan ahead in Negri Sembilan, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

He also said that PH was expecting a “big surprise” to come out of Negri Sembilan.

“If there is a big surprise, it will come from Negeri Sembilan… so Tok Mat (Mohamad) must be careful because Rembau is not a safe seat.

“They sent Khairy Jamaluddin to Sungai Buloh and Tok Mat (will) later lose in Rembau, because we see a significant increase in support for PH in Negri Sembilan, better than in 2018,” he said during a ceramah in Kuala Lumpur.

Umno has decided to move three-term MP Khairy from Rembau to allow Mohamad to contest in this traditionally Umno constituency, which this year will see him stand against four other candidates.

Mohamad, in his first bid for a parliamentary seat, will face challenges from former Malaysian Youth Council president Jufitri Joha (PH), Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunus, Ramly Awalludin (Pejuang) and S. Tinagaran (Parti Sosialis Malaysia).

Mohamad, the assemblyman for Rantau, was Negri Sembilan menteri besar for from 2004 to 2018.

Meanwhile, Jufitri, who is from Rembau, said he was confident of bringing a surprise in the election, with his experience as a youth leader.

In 2018, Khairy won Rembau with a majority of 4,364 votes. However, this year Khairy will stand in PKR stronghold Sungai Buloh, Selangor, which he has already described as the toughest fight of his political career. November 6, 2022.
