TIAN Chua has been sacked from PKR—a party he has been in since its founding days—for standing as an independent in Batu, Anwar Ibrahim said.

PKR’s P. Prabakaran is Pakatan Harapan’s choice for the Batu seat.

“We have sacked him (Tian Chua) as he had gone against party policy…he is standing as an independent,” Anwar told reporters in Tambun.

The PKR president said the party’s stand was clear on sacking those who went against it.

“It is unfortunate that Tian Chua has chosen this path. I don’t think this is what a reformist should do.

“We have to take necessary action as normally, those who contest as independent or leave the party for whatever reason, will be sacked,” he said.

Tian Chua, a two-term Batu MP, was forced to sit out the last general election due to his court case.

PKR and Tian Chua had then backed Prabakaran, an independent candidate at the time, who went on to win the seat and then joined PKR.

Earlier this year, Prabakaran defeated Tian Chua to become Batu PKR division chief.

Tian Chua’s supporters have always indicated that he wanted to contest again but the party decided to nominate Prabakaran again for GE15.

Yesterday Tian Chua announced his intention to stand as an independent in Batu. This morning he arrived at the nomination centre with a group of supporters, most of whom had been with Tian Chua since reformasi days. – November 5, 2022.
