FORMER DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has asked the Election Commission to disqualify controversial Umno politician Jamal Md Yunos from standing in the general election on grounds he  is facing bankruptcy.

Kok, who yesterday sent a written protest to EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh objecting to Jamal’s candidacy for the Sungai Besar parliamentary seat, urged the electoral authority to reject his nomination papers tomorrow.

She said she filed bankruptcy proceedings against Jamal on August 30 after claiming the Sungai Besar Umno division chief had defaulted on the terms of a July 26 judgment for a suit she won against him.

“Until today, Dato’ Seri Jamal Bin Md Yunos has still not completed the judgment and my bankruptcy proceedings against him are still ongoing,” she said in a statement.

On July 26, the High Court found Jamal had defamed Kok when he in 2017 accused her of misappropriating Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor funds under the state government’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas initiative.

The court ordered him to pay Kok RM300,000 in damages and RM50,000 in costs. – November 4, 2022.
