DAILY Covid-19 infections in Malaysia rose for the ninth straight day as the Health Ministry reported 4,711 new cases yesterday.
With new infections surpassing recoveries, active cases stood at 34,609.
No coronavirus-linked deaths were reported yesterday. The death toll remained at 36,480.
Selangor accounted for 1,609 of the cases, Kuala Lumpur (1,168) and Putrajaya (111). Together, the Klang Valley contributed to 2,888, or 61% of the new cases.
Other states and territories reporting new infections were Perak with 391, Negri Sembilan (299), Penang (232), Sabah (215), Malacca (149), Kedah (135), Kelantan (128), Pahang (79), Sarawak (75), Johor (60), Terengganu (41), Labuan (14) and Perlis (5).
Data showed 32,956 people (95.2%) were in home quarantine and 1,586 (4.8%) in hospitals.
There were 67 patients in intensive care, 47 of whom required respiratory assistance.
Earlier this week, caretaker health minister Khairy Jamaluddin warned of a new wave of Covid-19 infections and urged the public to remain vigilant at all times.
He encouraged the public to continue wearing a mask in crowded and enclosed spaces. He recommended Paxlovid treatment for high-risk patients. β November 4, 2022.
