PEJUANG Federal Territories liaison chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan is unperturbed by the “heavyweights” he will face in his battle for the Titiwangsa seat in the coming general election.

He said that he didn’t fear going up against Amanah communications director Khalid Samad and Kuala Lumpur Umno liaison chief Johari Abdul Ghani.

“I won’t rule out that they are big names, Khalid and Johari. I’m going into Titiwangsa as an underdog, but I vow to work as hard as possible to win the seat.

“I have no fear at all, because I have been moving in Titiwangsa for nearly two years. We are not appearing now (just for GE15),” he told The Malaysian Insight.

In the 2018 general election, Rina Mohd Harun contested the Titiwangsa seat on a Pakatan Harapan ticket and defeated Johari from Barisan Nasional and PAS candidate Mohamad Noor Mohamad.

Khairuddin said that Titiwangsa was plagued with many issues.

“The former Umno leaders had failed to solve the issues such as Kampung Baru redevelopment, drainage, floods, petty traders, urban poor, and others.

“One of the issues we had assisted the residents with was the redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru.

“When we assisted them, we didn’t see these ‘big names’ with us. We haven’t seen them with Kampung Baru residents.

“But, with Pejuang we are consistent in protecting and helping the residents here.”

He said that if given the mandate, Pejuang knew what to do for Titiwangsa.

“We know the sentiments and know how to address the predicament of the people here.”

He added that Pejuang had also been on the ground at 12 other constituencies in the Federal Territory.

“We were on the ground to assist the rakyat especially during the Covid-19 pandemic and when the city was flooded.

“So, it’s difficult to predict (who will win) in this current political landscape.”

Khairuddin said that Malaysians are wise and would make the right decision at the polls.

Pejuang chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad — who will be contesting again in Langkawi — said the Gerakan Tanah Air coalition would stand in all 120 constituencies with a Malay majority.

Malaysia will vote on November 19. Early voting is on November 15. Nomination day is on November 5. – November 3, 2022.
