PERAK Muda chief Mutalib Uthman has apologised for claiming to be the party candidate for Tapah.
In a Facebook post last night, Mutalib said he was wrong for announcing his candidacy.
“I apologise for all mistakes that have occurred. Admitting fault and apologising are the traits of a brave person,” Mutalib said.
He added that he would still stand for election in GE15 but did not say for which seat.
“I will contest in a rural seat held by a different minister,” he said.
Yesterday, Mutalib announced that he would be the Muda candidate in Tapah, following talks with Pakatan Harapan.
However, hours later, Muda information chief Luqman Long rebutted the statement, saying that so far, the party has only decided to contest three seats after discussions with PH.
The three seats are Kepala Batas, Tanjong Karang and Tanjung Piai.
The Tapah constituency is an BN stronghold held by MIC deputy president M. Saravanan since 2008. It was created in 1984 and has been in the hands of MIC/BN since the 1986 general election.
In the last general election, Saravanan retained the seat with a slim 614-vote majority in a three-cornered fight.
PKR will field its vice-president K. Saraswathy as the PH candidate for Tapah.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang has also named a candidate, Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi, for the seat.
Perikatan Nasional is also expected to field a candidate from PAS. – October 31, 2022.
