Police identify fewer than 100 election hotspots

POLICE have identified fewer than 100 election hotspots in the coming polls.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said personnel have been assigned to the designated areas.

“Through intelligence from the district police, we know some areas are quite ‘hot’ in terms of campaigns, emotional sentiments and so on, and having identified them, we have assigned personnel accordingly to ‘cool rising temperatures’ when campaigning begins,” he said.

He said this after the closing ceremony of an event at the 6th GOF Battalion Camp in Muar today.

He said a policeman would be stationed at each polling station, which has more than 38,000 channels. This is in addition to personnel and officers assigned to patrol duty for public control.

“All of them will be on duty starting from nomination day and during campaigning, to ensure that there are no elements that disrupt public order,” he said.

Acryl also reminded those involved in election campaigning from November 5 to 18 to be orderly, and to adhere to the law and standard operating procedure set.

Previously, Acryl was reported to have said that a total of 94,411 out of 120,557 policemen will be mobilised to face the general election.

The Election Commission has fixed November 19 for polling and November 15 for early voting. – Bernama, October 30, 2022.
