BERSATU vice-president and former Malacca assemblyman Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen has quit the party with immediate effect.

Rafiq said he chose to leave the party as he was disappointed at not being allowed to contest the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.

It is learnt that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has not made any decision yet on the seat but Malacca PAS yesterday said that the Islamist party would be fielding candidates for the Tangga Batu and Jasin parliamentary seats in the polls.

Rafiq previously served as the Malacca PN and Bersatu chairman but stepped down after failing to win the Telok Mas seat in the Malacca elections in November last year.

He was also an exco member for Malacca in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) state administration under former chief minister Adly Zahari from May 2018 until its collapse in March 2020.

Prior to his defeat in the Telok Mas seat, Rafiq was the Paya Rumput assemblyman. – October 30, 2022.
