FORMER PKR strongman Mohamed Azmin Ali last night chided his ex-boss Anwar Ibrahim for sending Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari to contest in Gombak in the coming general election.

The incumbent MP for Gombak at a ceramah said Anwar was trying to engage in a proxy war by naming Amirudin, before ridiculing the opposition leader for “running off” to Tambun in Perak.

“Yesterday, there were rumours that a big name will be fielded (in Gombak), but then it turns out he (Amirudin) was not that big of a name,” Azmin said, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Azmin said he would also welcome Anwar to send his wife or daughter to contest against him in Gombak.

The Bersatu supreme council member claimed that Amirudin had been forced by PKR’s top leadership to stand in Gombak.

“He may have a big position, but does he have a big heart?

“If you want to be a leader in Gombak, you must have a big heart, strong commitment, conviction and a clear conscience to lead.

“We can’t choose candidates that were forced to enter Gombak. That is what you call a proxy way.

“It would be better if that person were to challenge and compete against me personally in Gombak,” said Azmin.

Recently, Azmin at another ceramah, said he was told by Amirudin in a phone call that PKR wanted to “slaughter” him by sending the Sungai Tua assemblyman to contest in Gombak.

Responding to Azmin, Amirudin clarified that he was only joking when he said that he would be “slaughtered” in Gombak.

“Before that, we made some small talk. (By no means did) I reveal party secrets. It was only a joke, nothing personal about it. His life must be boring for him to say this in public,” said Amirudin, as quoted by The Star. – October 30, 2022.
