THE drama in Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) continued yesterday as Larry Sng suspended the membership of former party president Zuraida Kamaruddin and 12 supreme council members.
In a Facebook post, Sng said he is the legitimate party president who has acted in accordance with the party’s constitution in suspending the incumbent Ampang MP with 12 others.
“Letters of suspension have been sent to them individually,” Sng said in a statement late last night.
“The decision is in relation to their ongoing involvement in undermining the interest of the party and its leadership,” Sng added.
The dozen suspended supreme council members suspended are Haniza Mohamad Taha, Dr Daroyah Alwi, Rahimah Majid, Dr Sathiskumar Govindaraju, Muhammad Saiful Bahari Sahari, Na’im Brundage, Abdul Aziz Abdul Kadir, Zakaria Abdul Rahim, Muniraa Abu Bakar, Chua Lian Chye, Roger Tan Seng Huat, and Albakri Salim.
On Thursday, Sng said he had not relinquished the party presidency that he would stand in the general election on a PBM ticket.
In another Facebook post yesterday, Sng reiterated he is the rightful president on record with the Registrar of Societies. He also announced the suspension of party secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad and PBM information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid from their posts.
Hizwan disputed the suspensions, saying the incumbent Julau MP did not have the power to make such a decision as he was no longer the president.
Nor Hizwan said Zuraida is the legitimate president of PBM according to the party constitution.
He said the appointment of Zuraida was agreed at the party’s annual general meeting on October 1 and that minutes of the meeting were sent to ROS.
It was also decided in the early days of the party that Sng would yield the presidency to Zuraida, he said. – October 29, 2022.
