PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said that the party had conducted a thorough study before naming Anwar Ibrahim as the party’s candidate in Tambun.

The former lawmaker tonight quashed dissent from party detractors who claimed the party was making a mistake by naming the PKR president in the seat helmed by Bersatu’s Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

“Anwar can win in Tambun. Let me tell you, before we make any decision, we have studied the acceptance: the support from the Malays, Chinese, and Indians. We did not just bulldoze.

“We named Anwar after we got confirmation that Anwar, even before the nomination and campaign period, is leading, ahead of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN),” said Rafizi who will contest in Pandan in GE15.

Anwar, who is also the chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), was Port Dickson MP prior to the dissolution of parliament on October 10.

The Election Commission set November 19 as polling day for the 2022 general election.

Nomination day is on November 5 and early polling will be held on November 15.

On October 20, Anwar revealed that he would contest in Tambun.

In the 2018 general election, Faizal, who contested under the PH ticket using the PKR logo, won the seat with a 5,320-vote majority in a three-cornered fight with candidates from BN and PAS.

Faizal had said that he would defend Tambun, expressing confidence based on the support he received from volunteers and supporters of PN in Tambun. – October 29, 2022.
