PKR has named Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari as the candidate for Gombak in the upcoming general election.
The Sungai Tua assemblyman will go up against former party deputy president Azmin Ali who left PKR for Bersatu in 2020 following the Sheraton Move.
In an event in Ampang, PKR also announced that Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail would take on ex-PKR member Zuraida Kamaruddin in Ampang.
In tonight’s announcement, PKR made a surprise move by fielding former Amanah vice president Husam Musa as a candidate.
Husam, a former Kelantan assemblyman will contest in Pasir Mas.
Previously, PKR had named Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz as its candidate and the son of former PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat is now heading to Perak to contest in Pasir Salak.
Meanwhile, Shamsul Iskandar Mat Akin is going to face Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Bagan Datuk.
Shamsul’s Hang Tuah Jaya seat will be taken by Youth Chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
PKR also announced that Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is going to take on Kamaruddin Jaafar in Bandar Tun Razak while Nurul Izzah is set to defend Permatang Pauh.
Deputy president Rafizi Ramli—who made his political comeback this year—is contesting in Pandan.
Senior party members such as Tian Chua and Sivarasa Rasiah were not named as election candidates.
Tian, who was seen to be close to Azmin Ali, failed to be picked as a candidate for Batu—a seat he had previously won and defended—as PKR decided to stay with incumbent P. Prabakaran.
Sivarasa, another party leader who helmed Sungai Buloh, was replaced by Ramanan Ramakrishnan.
Activist and former Bersih chair Maria Chin Abdullah, who made her debut in 2018, was also not nominated as she was replaced by Lee Chean Chung. – October 29, 2022.
