LIOW Tiong Lai today insisted that MCA represents the Chinese, refuting Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz’s claim that the community now depends on DAP.

The MCA president said the party remains the voice of the Chinese, not the opposition Chinese-dominated DAP.

“I think it is crucial that Nazri should not divert the attention and attack MCA… there is no point whether MCA is not your friend or MCA is representing the Chinese or not.

“We know how to behave, we know how to be responsible. We know how to represent the Chinese community, we will do our part to ensure that Barisan Nasional will be strong,” he said in a press conference after the MCA’s 69th anniversary bash at its headquarters in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

Sin Chew Daily quoted Nazri as saying that MCA has failed to represent the Chinese after DAP won most of the Chinese-majority seats at the last elections.

Liow also criticised Nazri for calling the 94-year-old Hong Kong-based tycoon Robert Kuok a “pondan” and highlighting that MCA criticised Nazri at a recent cabinet meeting.

He added that Nazri’s comments on Kuok had hurt the Chinese.

“Do you agree with Nazri calling a 94-year-old pondan? So, we are just voicing out and let the leadership know that we represent the people through the right channel.

“Nazri, mind your language… what is wrong with MCA conveying the feeling of the Chinese to the prime minister? We are going through the right platform,” Liow said.

Umno leaders attacked Kuok following a series of posts by fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin that the tycoon was funding DAP.

Nazri called Kuok a “pondan” and a coward and dared the old billionaire to return to Malaysia to contest in the 14th general election, which must be held by August.

Another Umno leader, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, also told Kuok “not to forget his roots”.

Taking another dig at DAP, Liow said its national organising secretary, Anthony Loke, “should advise his friend Nazri” on matters pertaining to the Chinese.

Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau reported MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon as calling on Loke to explain his “friendship” with Nazri. – March 3, 2018.

  • Raced-based political parties should be outlawed. MCA claims to represent Chinese and that gives UMNO the excuse to represent Malays. MCA made use of the pretend to enrich big and small time so-called parties leaders at the expense of Chinese Malaysians. BN's racist policies are said to be agreed to by MCA. In the 1959 general election when there were 104 parliamentary seats MCA was given 33 parliamentary seats to contest. Now MCA is given 15 for GE 14, 60 years later. If MCA represents Chinese how come MCA gets less than 10% of the 168 parliamentary seats in Peninsular Malaysia. Look in the mirror before claiming.

  • Ahahaha - it is as if Liow listens to what some of us commentators say and is finally saying things consistent with the founding object of the party. That's better. DAP does not even want to contest this space. It represents all Malaysians, not just Malaysian Chinese. That's a higher calling. MCA can stay with their racial imperative. Give a few years, and they will be extinct.

  • Liow, the more you talk, the more you make a fool of yourself n MCA, n you don't realise it. It's your internal quarrel with Nazri. Don't try to drag DAP in just because Nazri mentioned tt DAP represents the Chinese which is correct according to the last election results. Say all you want about DAP, in fact the more you say, you make yourself appear childish n a fool.

  • I prefer the political party that supports decent human beings first, irrespective of race. I am not Chinese first, I am not Malaysian first, I am a human being first. Decent human beings puts honesty and integrity first.

As human beings, we will live well when we automatically respect all races. Imagine a world where doctors only treat one race - this will not work! Imagine if engineers only build bridges or roads for one race - it's a silly world! Imagine a police that catches crooks of one race only but let other races go free - this won't work! The world we live in is getting smaller and smaller with advancement in technology, it becomes even more important we think of ourselves as human beings first. Race is sadly outdated.

Decent human beings do not support political parties where their leaders are confirmed crooks, irrespective of race. You know which party this is. Our national debt has ballooned to RM631 billion with so much wastage. There are less than 10 million children in this country. Our national debt will not be paid in our lifetime, but will be paid by our 10 million children, even if government spends that monies today. That's a liability of RM63,100 for every single children in Malaysia, even those just born yesterday! We want honest and responsible government.

  • Liow is stupid to insist that MCA represents Chinese when UMNO minister insists that MCA does not. If Liow statement, he is saying that nothing MCA can do to improve the situation of Chinese in the country, whereas Nazri thinks that MCA cannot do anything to help Chinese, when help could be given, and DAP is in a position to do so. Chinese only want the government to treat them fairly and justly, and only UMNO chief can do it, because MCA has no influence over government decision. Liow should now tell Najib that even his minister thinks that the government have not been fair to the Chinese, and Najib should take the blame for MCA losing seats in the previous election. Obviously Liow is too stupid to understand this simple issue, and chooses to fight Nazri just because he told the truth that MCA does not represent Chinese.
