DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng has paid tribute to four party leaders who have decided to give way to other party candidates to contest in the upcoming general election.
The incumbent Bagan MP thanked them and said their contribution to the party and the country will not be forgotten.
“(My) tribute to the four DAP incumbent MPs not contesting in the coming general election – Tony Pua, Charles Santiago, Kasthuri Patto and Dr Ong Kian Ming – who graciously decided to support their replacements.
“Your contributions will not be forgotten as your devotion to the party and the people you served,” the former finance minister said.
Last night, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke announced that Santiago will be dropped for the coming polls and will be replaced by V. Ganabatirau in Klang.
Two-time Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto last week announced that she will not stand in the election, paving the way for future leaders to lead the party and country.
Likewise, incumbent Damansara MP Pua and incumbent Bangi MP Ong also decided to sit out the coming polls.
Pua and Ong will be replaced by Gobind Singh Deo and Syahredzan Johan respectively.
Lim also sang special praises for Pua, saying the latter had played a vital role for both party and country.
“I wish to single out Tony (Pua) who was not only a close confidante, indefatigable campaigner, talent headhunter and fund raiser extraordinaire but also put nation above self by rejecting a government post to help me in the Finance Ministry,” the former finance minister said.
Pua today said his decision not to contest his parliamentary seat in the coming election was made many years ago.
Pua also stressed that the decision not to contest does not mean he is quitting the party. – October 27, 2022.
