THE Sarawak Election Commission (EC) hopes that the voter turnout in the state for the upcoming general election will be higher than that of the state polls held last December, state EC director Abang Noraffian Abang Ibrahim said.
Without revealing the target percentage, he called on all Sarawak people who are eligible to vote to fulfil their responsibility at the polls on November 19.
“As for the preparations (for the general election), the EC (at the state level) is all set… the EC headquarters will release relevant statements from time to time,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Kuching today.
According to the EC’s latest data, Sarawak has 1.94 million voters for the general election while in the December state polls, 759,627 voters or 60.67% of the registered voters turned out to vote.
Nomination is on November 5 and early voting on November 15. – Bernama, October 26, 2022.
