PERIKATAN Nasional candidates in Kedah will campaign under the coalition banner for the general election, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said yesterday.

According to Takiyuddin, the decision was made by the PN leadership in a meeting yesterday after taking into account the electoral demographics in Kedah, which is more ethnically diverse than Kelantan and Terengganu.

“Actually, only two states will use the PAS logo: Kelantan and Terengganu.

“It was agreed in Kedah to use the PN logo,” he said in an Astro Awani report.

PN – comprising PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan, and two small Sabah-based parties – is set to go head-to-head with Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Gerakan Tanah Air in the coming election.

The Malaysian Insight understands that the decision was originally made in the Kedah PAS meeting on Sunday and then confirmed in the PAS working committee meeting.

A proposal had previously been made to use the PAS logo for all PN candidates in Kedah, but was opposed by Gerakan.

Kedah Gerakan chairman M. Marimuthu Selvan said it was difficult for non-Muslim voters to accept the PAS logo.

There are 15 parliamentary constituencies in Kedah.

Voting on November 19 will only be for MPs, after the PAS-led government decided not to dissolve the state assembly until next year. – October 26, 2022.
