THE Prison Department said today no segments of the travel documentary that was aired on TV1 yesterday, featuring jailed former prime minister Najib Razak, were filmed in prison, as alleged by social media users.

In a statement today, the department said the footage of Najib was recorded before he started his 12-year prison sentence on August 23.

“No footage involving Najib was made in prison as alleged,” the department said, appealing to the public not to spread unverified information.

Social media was abuzz yesterday over Najib’s appearance in the programme, with some users going as far as alleging that he was on the election campaign trail.

Najib was imprisoned after the Federal Court upheld his conviction on multiple corruptions over RM42 million misappropriated from SRC International funds.

The TV1 travel documentary, ‘Kembara Keluarga Malaysia’, is a 30-minute series on places of interest. Yesterday’s episode featured Pekan, Najib’s constituency.

He talked, among others, about the royal museum in Pekan.

Since he began his sentence, there have been repeated allegations that he has been receiving preferential treatment, which the department has consistently denied. – October 25, 2022.
