INCUMBENT Chenderiang assemblyman Ahmad Faizal Azumu does not harbour ambitions to be menteri besar again.

Speaking to the press, Faizal, or better known as Peja, said he will focus on defending his Tambun parliamentary seat.

“We haven’t made a decision (on who we are fielding) for Chenderiang. Personally, I want to focus on Tambun. This has nothing to do with Anwar. I just think it’s better to give others the opportunity to shine,” said the Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.

Faizal, who was Perak menteri besar during PN’s administration, is expected to face opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim in the coming general election.

“I have experience as a state assemblyman and menteri besar. I don’t want to be like other parties who are fighting for the menteri besar’s post,” he said.

In the 2018 general election, Faizal, who contested on the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket using the PKR logo, won the seat with a 5,320-vote majority in a three-cornered fight against candidates from Barisan Nasional and PAS.

On October 20, Anwar announced that he will contest in the Tambun parliamentary constituency in the general election.

Anwar, who is also PH chairman, was Port Dickson MP prior to the dissolution of parliament on October 10. – October 24, 2022.
