KHALID Abdul Samad said he was not surprised by Abdul Hadi Awang’s admission of initiating the Sheraton Move to bring down the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in 2020.

The Amanah communication director said Hadi is very different from the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who would not betray the people’s mandate for the sake of power.

“I’m not surprised if Hadi was one of the masterminds because it takes a sinister mind to do this.

“Hadi is very different from (former PAS president) the late Nik Abdul Aziz (Nik Mat) who would not have agreed to the Sheraton Move because he respected the mandate of the voters,” Khalid told the press outside the PKR headquarters.

Khalid said the incumbent Marang MP was desperate to be in power as well as to stay in power.

“Hadi was very desperate to make sure PAS remained in power and PH lost theirs because the longer PH stayed in power, the more famous we will become and the more difficult it will be for PAS to handle their own members and supporters,” he said.

The incumbent Shah Alam MP said that PH had made many good decisions for the Malays and the public in general during its administration.

“This includes upgrading the Shariah Court, salvaging Tabung Haji and giving oil royalties to Kelantan and Terengganu. All of these issues will be difficult for Hadi to handle, and Hadi was desperate for PH to fall,” he added.

Hadi is no stranger to making controversial statements. Recently, the PAS president accused the non-Muslims as being the cause of corruption in the country.

He is being investigated under section 505(C) of the penal code for issuing statements likely to incite the community and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network services.

He was called in by the cops for his remarks claiming that non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera communities are mostly responsible for corruption.

A total of 28 police reports have been made over the remarks.

Several groups in Sarawak were among those who filed police reports against Hadi. – October 23, 2022.
