MORE than 50 masked men disrupted a dinner organised by Muda last night in Muar – the second such incident after a similar programme was disrupted by a group of youths last week.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s media officer, Iqbal Farhan, said this time the men stepped up their campaign of intimidation by vandalising property, including cars parked nearby, and injuring participants.

“Muda Sabah chief Amos Thien was injured after a firecracker exploded in front of him and he fell during the commotion.

“The car belonging to Muda central executive committee member Lim Wei Jiet was also damaged. The group left after causing a commotion, which lasted for about 15 minutes.

“They came twice last night. They were chased away in their first attempt and then returned in numbers,” Iqbal said.

Last Sunday, Ceramah Mega Muar was thrown into chaos when Muda president Syed Saddiq took to the podium.

A group of around 30 youngsters started jeering at Syed Saddiq, shouting “penipu” (liar), while the Muar MP was talking about the assistance he had rendered to the people over the past couple of years.

The heckling caused Syed Saddiq to halt his speech, saying he had no time to argue with troublemakers.

Police then moved in to prevent a scuffle between the youngsters and Muda members, and instructed the youths to leave.

Umno Johor later denied that it was behind the disruption.

Police reports have been lodged by both Umno and Muda regarding the incident. – October 23, 2022.
