MIC hopes to be given more than nine parliamentary seats to contest in the general election, based on the increased support for the party from the Indian community, deputy president M. Saravanan said.

According to Saravanan, this has been conveyed to the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership for consideration.

“If we were to compare the 2018 by-elections and state elections there was a tremendous change in terms of support from the Indian community.

“From 10% in 2018, it rose to almost 37% during the Cameron Highlands by-election and later the state elections.

“I am confident this will increase again this time,” he said in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, last night.

Saravanan said he was prepared to defend his Tapah seat, which he has won for the past three terms.

Previously, MIC president S.A. Vigneswaran said the party would contest in all its traditional seats in the election, nine parliamentary and 18 state seats. – Bernama, October 23, 2022.
