GERAKAN Tanah Air (GTA), the Malay nationalist political coalition, will announce its list of candidates for the 15th general election next week, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

“We will announce the list of candidates next week just before the nominations (for GE15),” the coalition’s founding chairman said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

GTA had initially said it intended to contest 120 parliamentary seats in the general election, fielding 30% young candidates.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said that GTA has no other choice that to use Pejuang’s flag and logo for the general election. 

He said this is because they are yet to get the nod from the Registrar of Societies, which was submitted on September 6. 

“GTA has decided to use Pejuang’s flag and logo for GE15 campaigning to ensure the public doesn’t confuse us with other parties,” he said.

Caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob dissolved parliament last Monday, paving way for the general election.

The Election Commission will meet tomorrow and is expected to announce the relevant dates. – October 19, 2022.
