Ismail Sabri says was joking about sacking Perikatan ministers from cabinet

ISMAIL Sabri Yaakob has clarified that he was only joking when he remarked about sacking the 12 caretaker ministers from Perikatan Nasional over their letter to the King objecting to the dissolution of Parliament.

The caretaker Prime Minister said that if he was serious, the 12 would have been removed by now.

“He is still in the Cabinet. I didn’t sack him, so I was just joking,” he told reporters today

He was responding to a statement from Bersatu’s Abdul Latiff Ahmad who had slammed Ismail Sabri for stating that he could have sacked all 12 Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers for sending a petition to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong objecting to the dissolution of parliament.

“To use the word ‘I could have sacked PN ministers’ in a cynical tone was uncalled for although we know he has the power to hire and fire. We can resign ourselves, no need to sack us.”

“We are still members of a caretaker Cabinet, it’s not too late to fire us. Maybe the 9th prime minister can create history by firing his Cabinet in ‘injury time’,” he dared Ismail in a statement today. – October 19, 2022.
