Allegation that Mossad behind kidnapping disrupts investigation, say police

POLICE have yet to confirm if Israel’s national intelligence agency Mossad was behind the kidnapping of a Palestinian man last month, they said today, adding that their investigation is still open.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said a media report yesterday, which linked the abduction to the intelligence agency, has disrupted their investigation.

“I don’t know how the allegation came to surface and I don’t know where (the media) got it (the information),” Azmi told the press today.

Yesterday, the New Straits Times reported that Mossad had hired local agents to kidnap a Palestinian believed to have links to Hamas.

On Friday, 10 men and a woman were charged at the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur for kidnapping a Palestinian national, Omar Z. M. Albelbaisy, to obtain information about software used to hack mobile phones.

Edy Ko’im Said, 40, Mohamad Norakmal Hassan, 41, Dody Junaidi, 42, Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid, 39, Mohamad Naziree Mustapha, 39, Faizull Hardey Mohd Isa, 40, Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Rahis, 25, Mohamad Sufian Saly, 23, Muhammad Al Hatim Mohd Fauzi, 21, Nidarahayu Zainal, 34, and Raibafie Amdan, 39, were accused of committed the offence on Jalan Mayang in Kuala Lumpur at 10.40pm, September 28, and are charged under section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with section 34 of the penal code.

Meanwhile, it was reported that police have summoned NST group editor Farrah Naz Karim, ostensibly over yesterday’s article, for questioning today. – October 19, 2022.
