LAWYER Ambiga Sreenevasan today slammed Ismail Sabri Yaakob over his admission that he had declassified a report detailing Putrajaya’s probe into Tommy Thomas’ memoir to give Umno political ammunition to attack Pakatan Harapan.

Ambiga branded the disclosure an “unprecedented attack” on a former attorney-general and done in “bad faith”.

“This unprecedented attack on a former AG who charged top level crooks is an attack on the admin of justice. To admit it was to provide political bullets proves bad faith.

“Any investigations are now tainted as this is clearly political persecution,” she tweeted today.

According to a Malaysiakini report, the caretaker prime minister made the admission at a rally in Bagan Datuk yesterday, where he urged the party’s election machinery to take advantage of the findings to attack its rivals in the coming general election.

“I have given you bullets. In the Thomas case, we exposed (the report) by the special task force. I have given lots of bullets here.

“I asked the de facto law minister to publish it on their website, to detail what was done and what mistakes Thomas made.

“I told the attorney-general to take immediate action (against Thomas) under the Official Secrets Act, defamation law and so on. I told him to bring up this issue immediately,” he said.

“So, if this is already brought up, we cannot just leave it like that. We must capitalise on this issue to attack them,” he was reported as saying. – October 18, 2022.
