THE Perak assembly was dissolved today, paving way for state elections in conjunction with the general election.

Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad announced the dissolution this morning after obtaining the assent of Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

“Obtained the royal assent on Sunday,” he told reporters.

Perak is the third state – and most probably the last – after Pahang and Perlis – to have dissolved their assemblies following the dissolution of parliament on October 10.

Three Pakatan Harapan states – Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan – will not dissolve their state assemblies for elections this year, saying that they wish to focus their resources on flood preparations during the monsoon.

Likewise, three PAS states - Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah - will only hold state elections next year.

The terms of these state assemblies will automatically end next year.

Sarawak, Sabah, Malacca and Johor have held state elections this year and last.

The Election Commission will decide on October 20 the date of the general election. – October 17, 2022.
