THE letter by 12 Perikatan Nasional (PN) ministers to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong stating that they do not agree with the general election being held this year was the pact’s position, Hamzah Zainudin said today.

The PN secretary-general and home minister said in principle, he had to follow the decision made by the pact and not act according to his own wishes.

“The letter sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was Perikatan’s decision… the pact’s decision to object to holding a general election this year,” he said at a press conference in Bukit Aman.

“Even the prime minister said before that he was a ‘party man’. I respect his way. And so am I, listening to the wishes of the party.

“If the party says it is not appropriate, I agree that it is not appropriate.”

On Monday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob described the action of 12 ministers who sent a letter to the king as affecting harmony in the cabinet.

Ismail then used the letter as an excuse to advise the king to dissolve parliament.

Meanwhile, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin described Ismail as irresponsible when he blamed the pact and the 12 ministers for the dissolution of parliament. – October 12, 2022.
