PAS has been accused of being spineless and unable to hold a permanent stand on issues.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said PAS kept changing its stand and arguments to suit the Islamist party.
“PAS always changes its stand and point of arguments, similar to climate change. It depends on the season.
“When the season changes, the party’s point of arguments also changes,” he told reporters after opening the Kedah DAP annual convention in Alor Setar.
Loke’s comment comes after the Islamist party had accused DAP of becoming anti-Muslim and anti-Malay.
PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin recently said that DAP’s constitution was among 10 reasons to show the party was anti-Muslim and anti-Malay.
Quoting article 2 of DAP’s constitution, he said it sought to “reaffirm and restore the Federal Constitution to its original ‘secular’ framework”.
To this, Loke said he was baffled as to PAS discovering just now that DAP’s constitution supposedly contradicted the Federal Constitution, after both parties had worked together in two previous general elections.
The Seremban MP said PAS had never raised the issue when both were partners in Pakatan Rakyat and Pakatan Harapan.
“DAP used to have representatives in PAS governments in Kedah and Perak.
“If the allegation is true, how did PAS work with DAP back then?” he asked.
Loke urged PAS members and leaders to return to true Islamic teachings by refraining from making slanderous statements.
“We should be arguing based on politics. Stop riding on religious and racial sentiments.
“I can’t help but wonder what is wrong with PAS members. They used to be victims of slander but now they are ‘kaki fitnah’ (spreading slander),” he said. – October 9, 2022.
