NEW Bersatu member Wan Saiful Wan Jan agreed with Umno Supreme Council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, who had said MCA no longer represents the Chinese community.

Wan Saiful said it is obvious that component parties in the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) other than Umno are irrelevant.

“If you look at BN, it’s very obvious that the other parties are completely irrelevant. It is only about what Umno says,” he told The Malaysian Insight during the announcement of his membership at Bersatu headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

He seconded Nazri and said MCA is no longer the voice of the community and it had lost the trust of the community in the country.

In a report by Malaysiakini, Nazri said that MCA no longer represents the Chinese community but the DAP does.

The tourism and culture minister had previously called Hong-Kong based billionaire Robert Kuok a ‘pondan’ (effeminate).

He said the remark was made based on an allegation by blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin, who had accused Kuok for channelling funds to DAP.

Nazri said he would not apologise to Kuok and MCA members had hit out at the Umno minister for his remark.

Nazri had also described MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan as “not a clever fellow making a stupid statement” in response to the MCA leader’s reminder that the Umno minister had no authority to revoke Kuok’s citizenship.

MCA youth had said in a statement that Nazri’s crude remarks against the Malaysian tycoon and Ong undermined the BN spirit. – March 1, 2018.
