PAKATAN Harapan is confident that the coalition will be the king makers in Terengganu as no party will obtain a clear majority in the 15th general election.

Coalition chairman in the state, Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah, said PH only needs to win six seats in the state legislative assembly.

“Our prediction is that neither Umno nor PAS will get a majority, the difference may be one or two seats, PAS may get 13 seats, Umno, 12 seats.

“If the prediction is correct, our aim is to win only six seats, which can make us the kingmaker for whichever party, to going to form the state government,” Raja Kamarul told The Malaysian Insight in Kuala Terengganu.

Raja Kamarul, who is also the chairman of Amanah Terengganu, said because of that factor, PH has decided to compete in eight parliamentary seats and 32 assembly seats.

He said it was not a risky move because PH is confident it could compete to win more than six seats in the east coast state.

What’s more, he said, Terengganu has eight high risk seats out of 32 state seats, which were won with less than 1,000 votes.

In addition, he is also confident that PH is becoming more popular in Terengganu and will be able to win easily in urban seats, such as Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman.

Seven of the eight seats won by PAS were Kota Puteri, Jabi, Ladang, Pengkalan Berangan, Kuala Berang and Ajil.

Meanwhile, three of the six parliamentary constituencies PAS won – in Setiu, Kemaman and Kuala Nerus – were also on shaky ground because fewer than 10,000 people voted in each case.

Notwithstanding the fact that Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali announced his exit from PAS in March, becoming an independent.

Three-cornered fights are predicted in Terengganu, despite attempts by PAS and Umno to revive Muafakat Nasional.

“In Terengganu, this is unique because tension still exists between the two parties. The members of each party must not forget how the conflict between the two started. They accused each other of being infidels.”

PH candidates are young, fresh faces

Raja Kamarul said the state PH has completed the issue of seat allocations, which have been handed over to the leadership.

He said it included the issue of the contentious Bandar state seat, wanted by both PKR and DAP.

“DAP made a request for Bandar as it believes it can represent the seat well.

“At the same time, the seat is traditionally PKR, so we leave it to the PH presidential council to decide,” he said.

In addition, he said 40% of PH Terengganu candidates will be under the age of 40 in this general election.

Kamarul Bahrin said the decision was in line with the wishes of the people, who want a change in leadership no longer dominated by veteran candidates.

“We want to give new faces because this is what the people want, they don’t want old people.

“I personally want to rest, I do not want to compete but because I am the leader, the chairman, so we have to compete,” Kamarul said, adding that he will contest Kuala Terengganu. – October 7, 2022.
