MALAYSIA logged 1,722 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, taking the national tally to 4.85 million.

Two deaths were reported yesterday – one each in Sabah and Kedah – with both classified as dead on arrival (DOA).

The toll of fatalities is now at 36,387, of which 7,739 were DOA. 

Of the new cases yesterday, Selangor logged the highest with 581, followed by Kuala Lumpur (388) and Perak (133). 

Other states and territories reporting new infections were Sabah with 125 cases, Sarawak (89), Penang (74), Negri Sembilan (62), Kedah (53), Kelantan (53), Malacca (49), Johor (37), Terengganu (26), Pahang (25), Putrajaya (20), Labuan (4) and Perlis (3). 

The number of active cases increased to 23,038 yesterday, while 1,639 people recovered from the virus. 

Some 22,011 (95.5%) of cases were in home quarantine and 979 (4.5%) in hospitals. 

There were 48 patients in intensive care, 26 of whom required respiratory assistance. – October 6, 2022.
