THE Constitution (Amendment) (No. 3) Act 2022 that prohibits MPs from switching parties will come into force ahead of the next general election, according to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the act, which had obtained the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has yet to have a specific date of enforcement.

“The act will come into force before the election. I will announce it when the time comes,” he said today.

Earlier today, the Dewan Rakyat was told that the king had signed off 14 laws, including this act, passed during the previous sitting.

Wan Junaidi said Budget 2023 will also be tabled as scheduled this Friday. The minister said the government is committed to ensuring that bills will be ready relating to the abolition of the mandatory death penalty and will be brought up for the first and second readings during this parliament session. – Bernama, October 3, 2022.

  • My feeling is that the anti hoping bill will only be gazetted after the elections. UMNO will need the frogs to rule without a coalition other than BN.
