UMNO should not be imposing impossible conditions if it wants to cooperate with other parties in the next general election, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.

Commenting on three conditions placed by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to PAS, Tuan Ibrahim said such a move was not helpful.

“We try as much as possible to form an alliance with three parties and we also know that two parties are good, but three (parties) are good, we have to take the best,” Tuan Ibrahim said, as quoted by Free Malaysia Today.

Yesterday, Zahid said there are three things PAS needs to fulfil if it wants to work with Umno.

The three conditions are that PAS must leave the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, sever political ties with Bersatu, and officially announce that they are 100% separated from PN and Bersatu.

He conveyed these conditions to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in their recent meeting.

According to Zahid, if PAS fulfils those three conditions, Umno is willing to discuss cooperation between the two.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS will meet with the Umno leadership to discuss the conditions set by Zahid.

However, he refused to say when talks will be held.

In a separate statement late last night, Zahid said efforts to restore the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact between Umno and PAS must be guided by the principles and spirit of the original charter the parties signed.

PAS entered into a collaboration with Umno to form MN in September 2019 when the two Malay parties were in opposition and when Pakatan Harapan was still the government.

After the Sheraton Move, PAS together with Bersatu and two parties in Sabah formed PN, led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

Since then, the relationship between PAS and Umno began to strain and the cooperation in MN ended.

Over the past few months, both parties have been working hard to revive the pact, including through meetings between presidents of both parties. – October 3, 2022.
