BERSATU supreme council member Mohamed Azmin Ali should just focus on his Gombak constituency instead of challenging others, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said.
The comment from the Port Dickson MP came after Azmin had said that he would welcome anyone including Anwar, his wife and children if they are interested in contesting in Gombak.
Anwar’s wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is Pandan MP while his daughter Nurul Izzah is Permatang Pauh MP.
“Why are we bothered about him (Azmin), he should take care of his area. It won’t be easy (for Azmin in the general election),” said Anwar.
Azmin was PKR’s deputy president before defecting to Bersatu following the Sheraton Move in 2020, which saw the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
Azmin contested in Gombak in 2018 under the PH banner.
It was reported earlier today that the former Selangor menteri besar had taken a swipe at Anwar by saying that he is ready to contest the latter for the Gombak parliamentary seat.
In his speech at Bersatu’s event, Azmin said he is willing to fight against Anwar’s wife and daughter.
On Anwar’s recent announcement that he is eyeing to contest in seats held by “traitors”, Azmin listed events alleging to be Anwar’s own betrayals to voters, such as the failed ‘Kajang Move’ and the Port Dickson by-election.
Speculation is rift that Anwar is ready to leave Port Dickson and contest in either Gombak or Ampang.
Ampang is currently helmed by another ex PKR member Zuraida Kamaruddin who followed Azmin during the political turmoil. – October 2, 2022.
