TWO brothers died in a freak accident after being electrocuted while bathing in a basin in the yard of their house at Kampung Teras Jernang, Bangi, yesterday evening.

In a statement today, Sepang district police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the victims, aged 9 and 10, were the second and third of four siblings.

He said the father of the victims, who ran a food stall, said his children were bathing in a basin in their house compound when the incident took place. At that time, the siblings’ father had gone out to run errands while their mother was in the kitchen. Upon his return, the father found both his sons not breathing.

“According to the father, his children died due to an electric shock that flowed from a metal clothes hanger. Tenaga Nasional Bhd authorities said that there was friction from a live wire on the side of the house caused the electric current to flow through the zinc basin,” he said.

Wan Kamarul said investigations also revealed that the victims were electrocuted when they came into contact with a metal clothes hanger in the basin.

He said there were also many metal items scattered in the house as the victims’ father previously operated a workshop but after it was closed, unused items were brought back to the house.

“The bodies of both victims were sent to the Serdang Hospital for autopsy following Covid-19 screening tests,” he said. – Bernama, October 1, 2022.
