ZAHARIN Mohd Yasin, sacked from Umno last night, said he would consider becoming a candidate for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat in the next general election.

In a video posted on Facebook, the veteran ex-Umno man said he was aware that some friends from PH had suggested his name.

“I am not thinking of joining any party but I am aware that some friends in PH want me to contest in Bandar Tun Razak.”

“I am not interested but would consider it if they push me for it. I can win because I have many supporters there,” he added.

Zaharin made the statement an hour after Umno secretary general Ahmad Maslan announced his dismissal from the party.

Zaharin also thanked the party’s supreme council members for approving the decision, saying that he can now comment freely on Umno’s affairs.

“I am 70 years old and I have been sacked from Umno. I am not affected. Thank you as I am free now,” he said in the post.

Last night Ahmad Maslan announced that the party has agreed to sack Zaharin who was Umno treasurer for Bandar Tun Razak.

The Umno secretary general however did not go into details on Zaharin’s termination.

Zaharin is known for being a staunch critic of president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and certain leaders who are hit with graft charges.

Kamarudin Jaffar won the Bandar Tun Razak seat for PKR in the last general election but he defected from the party during the Sheraton Move in February 2020. He is now a Bersatu member. – October 1, 2022.
