PAKATAN Harapan (PH) met with Muda to discuss the youth party’s application to join the opposition coalition.

In a joint statement, both said today’s discussion went well and the result of the meeting will be brought to the leadership council for further action.

“This is a serious effort between PH and Muda to ensure the voices and interests of the people are raised together ahead of the 15th general election. Today’s discussions have gone well and smoothly,” they said.

Members of the PH-Muda Negotiations Committee were:

  • Steven Sim (DAP national organising secretary)
  • Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PKR vice-president)
  • Mohd Hasbie Muda (Amanah national youth head)
  • Ewon Benedick (Upko president)

Muda was represented by its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, vice president Zaidel Baharuddin and information chief Luqman Long.

Syed Saddiq was previously reported as saying that the party agreed to join PH as one of the component parties to face the next general election and was open to holding official discussions with the PH presidential council regarding the matter.

The party is no stranger to working with PH, having reached an agreement with the coalition in the Johor elections to run for seven seats in the 56-seat assembly.

Amira went on to win in Puteri Wangsa with a majority of 7,114 votes, seeing off five other candidates, including Ng Yew Aik (Barisan Nasional), Khairil Anwar Razali (Pejuang), Loh Kah Yong (Perikatan Nasional), Steven Choong (Parti Bangsa Malaysia) and Independent candidate Adzrin Adam.

Aside from Syed Saddiq’s Muar seat, Muda is targeting 15 more parliamentary seats nationwide. – September 30, 2022.
