BERSATU president Muhyiddin Yassin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang met last night to discuss the next general election at a time when both Perikatan Nasional (PN) parties seem to have differing views on Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).

PAS has openly said Umno and BN are not its enemies at the polls while Muhyiddin thinks otherwise.

The meeting also took place amid rumours that efforts are under way to revive Muafakat Nasional (MN) after PAS and Umno’s cooperation was disrupted three years after the agreement was signed.

“Our two-hour discussion last night was meaningful. We agreed on a lot of issues to strengthen PN ahead of GE15,” Muhyiddin said on Facebook, referring to the next general election.

The meeting was also attended by Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Bersatu vice-president Mohd Radzi Jidin and PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the Islamist party will not accept the actions of any party to label other Malay-Muslim parties as the enemy.

This is the third time he is saying this, that PAS still regards Umno as its political ally.

Yesterday’s meeting took place after Hadi was reported to have met Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last week to discuss avoiding clashing at GE15.

Umno and PAS had formed MN in September 2019 when both were in the opposition while Pakatan Harapan (PH) was in power.

Their cooperation was stalled after PAS teamed up Bersatu in the Sheraton Move to oust PH.

Muhyiddin, who is also PN chairman, had previously said he would seek an explanation from Hadi about his meeting with Zahid. – September 27, 2022.
