Barisan Nasional (BN) is Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) enemy in the upcoming general election and coalition members must not lose sight of this said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Bersatu president also said that each PN component should act in line with the decisions made by its leadership.

“If we are committed and with more than 700,000 members, supported by PAS and Gerakan (with a total of maybe two million members), this is a big political movement moving as a team towards a single direction.”

“We cannot let Bersatu say this, PAS say this, Gerakan say this. If we don’t show unity we will lose because it is not clear who our enemy is.”

“When the time comes for the 15th general election (GE15), then PN with the support of Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Star and SAPP, will have to move its machinery as one,” he said in Putrajaya today.

In his speech at Bersatu’s sixth anniversary celebration, Muhyiddin said that PN did not take into account the seats that BN and PH would contest.

“I don’t want to talk about PH, that’s their own thing. Umno wants to contest all the seats, it is up to them,” said Muhyiddin, in front of about 1,000 party members present.

Muhyiddin’s speech was aimed at PAS, a party that wants to cooperate with BN, especially Umno in GE15.

PAS Secretary General Takiyuddin Hassan said on September 20 that the door for cooperation is still open for Umno as the two are not enemies.

Takiyuddin said that PAS did not agree to make BN their political enemy in the general election, pointing to PH as its enemy.

It was related to the meeting on Tuesday between PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang and Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Commenting on the matter, Muhyiddin in his press conference later said he would get Hadi’s confirmation on the matter first.

“I read the statement, I also want to know what happened, I need to get clear information when I meet Hadi, Monday or Tuesday.

I will set a date and we will discuss many important issues, of course we want to get clarification whether there really was a discussion and what was the outcome of the discussion.

“Whether Umno agrees or what PN’s position is within the negotiations, for now I will wait for the opportunity to meet Hadi next week,” said Muhyiddin.

However, each PN component is free to hold meetings with anyone as long as the date of the general election has not been announced, he said.

“But when it comes to the general election, we will have a joint decision, now each party has the freedom to do what it wants to do, I can’t say no to that.”

“We will work in the spirit of PN and discuss in the spirit of consultation,” said Muhyiddin. – September 24, 2022.
