THE Health Ministry cannot divulge former Prime Minister Najib Razak’s health condition unless it was requested by the court, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The health director-general said the ministry is bound by doctor-patient confidentiality under the Medical Act 1971 (Amendment 2012).

“The clinical investigation, treatment and monitoring have been carried out by the Health Ministry and the medical report will be submitted to the court (by order of the court), but at the same time the ministry has to comply with the ethics of patient confidentiality under the Medical Act 1971 (Amendment 2012).

“Any detailed information about a patient’s health can only be presented to the court (if directed by the court),” Dr Noor Hisham said in a Facebook post today.

Yesterday, the Prison Department confirmed that Najib has been admitted to Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH) for treatment.

The department said Najib was referred to CRH after his hospitalisation at Kuala Lumpur Hospital on September 12.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Najib was transferred to CRH because he requires physiotherapy. – September 22, 2022.
