PRIME Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today said matters pertaining to the 15th general election (GE15) will be discussed in the cabinet meeting this Wednesday.
He said since there will be a cabinet meeting before he leaves for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly later this week, there is a possibility for the discussion on the polls to be held first before Umno holds its meeting, as the cabinet is made up of various parties.
“We have Bersatu, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Umno representatives in the cabinet, so we will discuss election matters.”
He said this when asked about the possible discussion on the next general election after launching the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 in Putrajaya today.
Ismail said he has yet to meet with Umno’s top five to discuss the general election.
“At the Barisan National Youth event (last Saturday), I mentioned that the GE15 will be held very soon… but let me meet with the Umno president and the top five first,” he said.
Umno’s top five refers to president Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, his deputy Mohamad Hasan and three vice-presidents – Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Mahdzir Khalid and Ismail himself.
When asked, Ismail said the top five meeting is normally convened before the party’s Supreme Council meeting, with the next one scheduled for September 30.
“The council has set the date for its meeting on the evening of September 30. So, maybe we will have our meeting in the afternoon,” he said. – Bernama, September 19, 2022.
