PRIME Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob should call for an election if he cannot fix the country’s economy, said Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin.
The former prime minister said an election would pave the way for a more capable government, free from corruption.
“I am not pressuring the PM to dissolve parliament like what Barisan Nasional is doing but if this is the way to save our country, so be it.”
“If the PM cannot manage the economy, better to have an election so a more capable government, people-oriented and clean can be chosen,” he added.
According to Muhyiddin, measures that should be taken had been suggested to the government but Ismail did not heed any of it.
“The PM did not address the steps that should be taken such as the ways to save our ringgit. He even said that this is not a big problem.”
“He said Malaysia is not in a crisis and everything is okay. I know not everything is okay out there,” said the Pagoh MP.
Speaking further, Muhyiddin who stepped down as PM in 2021 stated that he also reminded Ismail about Malaysia becoming one of the largest food importers.
“Last year our food imports were RM63 bilion and if our ringgit drops the price of food will continue to increase.
“Is this okay? It looks like the PM is not taking this matter seriously,” he stressed.
Ismail recently said that he would announce the date of general elections soon.
He is being pressured by Umno leaders to call for snap polls. β September 19, 2022.
