DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok has filed a bankruptcy notice against Sungai Besar Umno division leader Jamal Yunos after he failed to pay damages as ordered by the Kuala Lumpur High Court following her win in a defamation suit.

The Seputeh MP said that she had filed the notice against Jamal through her lawyers SN Nair and Jaden Phoon as the Umno leader has not paid her a single sen to date.

“As of today, I have not received any compensation and costs from Jamal.”

“The total amount of damages and cost of action together with the interest of the judgment accumulated from July 26 until August 30, 2022 amounts to RM351,479.45,” she said in a statement today.

In July, High Court judicial commissioner Arief Emran Arifin ruled that Jamal was liable for defaming Kok during a press conference on March 8, 2017 and ordered him to pay her RM300,000 in damages within 14 days from the judgement date.

The court also ordered Jamal to pay Kok RM50,000 in costs.

Kok filed a defamation suit against Jamal on April 6, 2017, for saying she and other opposition leaders had misappropriated funds belonging to Yayasan Arisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) under the Skim Mesra Usia Emas initiative.

Earlier today, it was reported that Jamal was rushed to hospital after collapsing at an event in Sungai Besar last night.

According to his son Amin Daniel, Jamal is at Prince Court medical centre and is being closely monitored by specialists. – September 18, 2022.
