Najib welcomes Kuok’s appreciation of opportunities given to him

PRIME Minister Najib Razak has welcomed the statement from billionaire Robert Kuok who said he appreciated every opportunity given to him.

Najib’s press secretary Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad said the prime minister also took note of Kuok’s appreciation of Malaysia’s leaders in a statement issued by the billionaire’s office yesterday.

In the statement, Kuok had also recognised the contributions of all Malaysians in the development of the country.

“Robert Kuok’s statement is in line with Najib’s statement last week that despite being diligent, disciplined and steadfast, government assistance remains the ‘key’ which opens opportunities for success.

“Najib had said government policies are the key that has opened opportunities in education, business and employment that will enable individuals to succeed,” he said in a statement today.

Najib had said Kuok would not have made his fortune without help from the Malaysian government.

Tengku Sariffuddin said Kuok’s success was an inspiration to all aspiring entrepreneurs.

Najib’s statement today comes following a barrage of attacks by Umno leaders, who attacked the Hong-Kong based businessman following a series of posts by fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin claiming Kuok was secretly financing DAP.

Kuok has denied funding the opposition party to oust the government, as alleged by Raja Petra. Kuok’s office said he reserved the right to sue the blogger over the allegation.

Umno leader Tajuddin Abdul Rahman had told Kuok “not to forget his roots”, while Najib had said Kuok could not have made his fortune without the Malaysian government’s help.

The harshest words came from Nazri, who called Kuok a “pondan” (effeminate) and dared him to return to Malaysia to contest in the 14th general election.

MCA religious harmony bureau chairman Ti Lian Ker hit out at Nazri, saying the attack was not in keeping with Malaysian culture and that Kuok was a businessman whose success had also benefited Malaysians in general.

Kuok yesterday said he was mulling legal action against Raja Petra and his blog Malaysia Today.

Kuok’s office said in a statement yesterday that Raja Petra made false allegations in three articles published between February 21 and 23.

Kuok made his fortune importing sugar into Malaysia, parlaying that business into a Hong Kong-based empire that spanned commodities and hotels. – February 27, 2018.

  • What a hypocrite you are Mr. PM. You are the one who intiated the on slaught to tarnish Mr. Kuok in his role in Malaysia by your devious subtlety of assasination on his characters and virtues. Your goons are just like the loose mongrel packs that attacks knowlingly that it is free for them to do so. Stop your two face and we are just tired of your charade. We are just waiting and definitely we will not miss you at all when the results of GE14 is annouced

  • Kuok must be appreciative that UMNO did not tell its members to boycott sugar, and so he could be sugar king. Now that Kuok has sold his sugar interest, and UMNO cronies can raise the price of sugar at will, should UMNO members thank Kuok for not raising sugar price while he owned the mills then? Najib said that kuok was given the key to success. UMNO must have given a lot of keys away, particularly after NEP. Why is it that GLCs are losing money, and the CEOs are not told to thank government for allowing the them the opportunity to lose money playing with GLCs capital?
