GERAKAN Tanah Air (GTA) will go it alone in the next general election, chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

He said GTA will also not co-operate with any party involved in corruption or establishing a government through the back door.

“We already have a coalition, which comprises Malay political parties, several civil society groups, and individuals from academics and professionals who love the country.

“They want to be involved in politics to help the country return what it once was known, as a clean, efficient and trustworthy Asian tiger,” he in Seri Kembangan today when asked whether GTA would team up with another coalition.

On August 30, Dr Mahathir said GTA was open to discussing working with Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Meanwhile, he said GTA’s registration status with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) is expected to be known next month.

“We are waiting for the RoS to decide. I hope it is not registered the day before the dissolution of the government, so we have time to prepare for the election,” he said.

GTA submitted the application for the coalition’s logo and registration to the ROS on September 6.

GTA comprises four parties: Pejuang, Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia, Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia and the Parti Perikatan India Muslim Nasional.

The Langkawi MP also said Budget 2023 needs to be approved before the election because there will be problems if there is a change in government and, therefore, policy. – Bernama, September 16, 2022.
