PM mourns country’s loss of great leader Samy Vellu

MALAYSIA lost a great leader today with the passing of former MIC president S. Samy Vellu at the age of 86, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He said Samy had succeeded in uniting the Indians in Malaysia as well as championed the welfare of the community.

“We have lost a great leader. Tun Samy Vellu was considered the ‘father of unity’ by the Indian community.

“When Tun Samy Vellu was the president of MIC, he managed to unite the Indian community in Malaysia and always championed their interests, in terms of economy and others. The country has lost a great leader today,” he said at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur today.

Samy died at his residence around 7am today.

His death was confirmed by former MIC president Dr S. Subramaniam. – Bernama, September 15, 2022.
