Helicopter goes missing in Perak

A Eurocopter chopper is feared missing after it missed its scheduled landing at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Perak, at 12.37pm today. – EPA pic, September 11, 2022.

A HELICOPTER in a private flight has gone missing in Perak, with search underway, Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) informed me that the helicopter lost contact with the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre at 12:16pm.

“CAAM, with the assistance of Bidor police, has activated a search and rescue operation,” he said in a Facebook post. 

According to him, the Eurocopter chopper operated by a local company had taken off from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport at 11.37am. 

“It was for a private flight with one pilot in command onboard, and was scheduled to land at 12:37pm at Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh, Perak.”

Just last month, a light aircraft, a Piper 28, was believed to have crashed at around 8pm on Jalan Dr Nazrin Shah, Sungai Rokam, Medan Gopeng in Ipoh, Perak. 

Flying instructor Fajim Juffa Mustafa Kamal, 52, from Semenyih, Selangor, was killed, while another, Muhammad Din Fikri Zainal Abidin, 62, from Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, was injured. 

They were reported to have taken off from a flying school nearby. – September 11, 2022.
