Malaysia sees more births in Q2

THE number of births in the second quarter of 2022 increased by 0.2% to 110,858 from 110,657 births recorded in the second quarter of last year, the latest demographic statistics by the Statistics Department showed.

The department, in a statement today, said 56,801 and 54,057 male and female babies were born in the period respectively.

Selangor recorded the highest number of births with 22,017 or 19.9% while Labuan had the lowest with 413, it said.

The department said a total of 46,772 deaths were recorded in the second quarter of 2022, a drop of 6.9% from 50,230 in the second quarter of last year.

It added that 655 deaths were related to Covid-19, contributing 1.4% of the total number of fatalities in the second quarter of this year.

The department also stated that Malaysia’s population was estimated at 32.7 million in the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 0.2% from the second quarter of last year at 32.6 million.

Three states with the highest population were Selangor at 21.6%, followed by Johor (12.3%) and Sabah (10.4%). – Bernama, September 8, 2022.
